Winning Scholarships as a Freshman in High School

If you are looking for scholarships for high school freshmen, your best bet is going to be more along the lines of the creativity contests. Scholarships available to high school freshmen often probably won’t be based on academics or extracurricular involvement, as you have not yet had time to really build up your resume or prove yourself in those areas.

Therefore many scholarships for high school freshmen will most likely be based on some sort of creativity or writing contest. For example, a scholarship for high school freshmen could involve you having to create some sort of video (perhaps about not smoking…something positive), make a creative work of art, or write an essay about a passion that you have.

The key to winning these scholarships is to think creatively and outside of the box. How will your scholarship entry stand out from all other applicants? How can you make it stand out the most? If you figure this out, and enter into the scholarship with an application/entry that stands out and blows the reviewers away, you will have a much better chance of winning that scholarship.

If you are lucky enough to find a scholarship for high school freshmen that is based on academics and/or extracurricular involvement, then the key to winning will be having a perfect academic record so far in high school (and probably in middle school as well), and being able to show that you have been as involved as much as possible during your freshman year, while being able to also balance your grades with those commitments.

In addition you will probably have to write an essay to include with your scholarship application. The key to winning here is to put a LOT of time into writing the scholarship application essay so that it stands out from all others, both in creativity and impact on the reader. It needs to show that you are the most qualified to win the scholarship. By doing the above, you will greatly increase your chances of winning scholarships for college while only a freshman in high school!
