Gates Millenium Scholarship Essays

In this post, I will continue to elaborate on the Gates Millenium Scholarship Essays, and how to best answer the nominee questions in order to improve your chances of winning the scholarship. As I said before, scholarship essay questions are your best place to stand out as an applicant, and the Millenium Gates Scholarship is no exception!

The next essay question on the application asks you to describe a situation in which you thought yourself or others were treated unfairly, or not given an opportunity that they deserved. You are asked to explain why you think it happened, how you responded, and the result of your response. You should also elaborate on why you thought your way of responding might make a difference and whether or not it ended up doing so.
Obviously here, you will want to describe a situation decisions weren’t made fairly (a situation where you or someone deserved something, but someone more undeserving received it instead). Don’t describe a situation where you reacted to harshly, but one where you reacted in a fair, reasonable manner, and hopefully also achieved good results. I feel that this essay question is also looking to learn more about your ability to solve problems, in this case where solving the problem involves people/decision skills more than it does thinking abilities. Solving a problem like this requires leadership abilities, so be sure to address in your essay how you used your leadership abilities to address the problem and get it solved in a rational manner.

The next question for the Gates Millenium Scholarship Essays asks you to discuss your short and long term goals, and also allows you to elaborate on any that you have already accomplished. This is definitely one of my favorite essay questions. I feel that for this question, no matter who you are, you can really show who you are and shine if you put the effort into this question. This one obviously doesn’t need much explaining; talk about what you want to do with your life. For scholarship essay questions like this, I feel that it is always important to tie your life goals in with how your future accomplishments will benefit society. Basically, your essay answer will be describing how you plan to succeed in life, how your success will benefit society, and how the Millenium Gates Scholarship can help you get there.

The next question of the Millenium Gates Scholarship Essays asks you to discuss a leadership experience you have had, and to include how you became a leader and how the experience has influenced your goals. One important part of answering this scholarship essay question will be to not simply repeat the activities you have provided in the leadership section of your application. This would definitely kill your chances of winning the Millenium Gates Scholarship. In answering this essay question, you should focus on just one leadership experience you have had. Explain how you rose up and attained respect from your peers, and how they gradually begin to perceive you as the leader. Describe what you did as a leader and how it had a positive impact on the organization you were a part of. Also be sure to discuss the affects that this experience had on you as a person.

Your next question on the Gates Scholarship Essays will be to discuss your involvement and accomplishments in community service. Again, in answering this question you will not want to simply repeat information that you have already provided on other parts of the scholarship application. Basically, discuss your involvement in your community and how you were able to make a positive impact. Try to use specific examples and not be vague. By using specific examples of how you made a positive impact on your community and how it also affected you as a person, the reader of your application will get a better idea of who YOU are as an applicant. This will definitely increase your chances of winning the scholarship.
