Note From The Editors

Dearest Brown Town Readers:

As you may have noticed, the editors and contributors of Brown Town have been on a long hiatus. However, we’re back! And we write to you to let you know that we appreciate your readership, comments, support, and requests for coverage.

We apologize for being out of touch for the last year. While we haven’t covered significant Brown events on our site – for instance what is now being called the ‘2012 Delhi gang rape’ that occupied much of the U.S’s media attention last year, Kal Penn’s controversial defense of “stop and frisk” tactics, Nina Davuluri’s triumphant victory as ‘Miss America,’ and the recent attack of NYC professor Dr. Prabhjot Singh – they have certainly been on our mind. Our editorial team has been working behind the scenes to start up Brown Town again. We’ve noted great projects taking off or continuing to do cool work since our hiatus—including The Aerogram, and SAADA’s First Days Project. Here’s to hoping that we will continue to inspire conversations about issues throughout the global South Asian diaspora.

We began Brown Town as an effort not only to keep fastidiously abreast of events such as these listed, but also to engage critically with them. As our mission statement says, after the horrific shooting of the Sikh Gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin in the summer of 2012, we were inspired to come together to a create a venue that houses a myriad of perspectives on “Brown” issues. We also wanted to showcase and celebrate thinkers and artists of the South Asian community. We remain committed to that project. In the upcoming weeks, we will begin again to post more regularly.

We invite not only your readership, but also your participation. Please send us blog posts, articles, comments, videos, photos, tips, and suggestions for pieces. We look forward to our awesome conversations.
