2% More Canadians studying in U.S.A. in 2013

For the first time since 2009, the number of Canadians studying in the United States has increased! Each year, the Institute of International Education releases its Open Doors report on student mobility. Data from Open Doors 2013 show the number Canadian students in the United States has increased by 2% from 2012 to 2013, bringing the total to 27,357 students. This trend reverses a 9.7% we saw in Canadian student numbers between 2009 and 2012. Canada remains today the fifth largest sending country of foreign students to the United States.

These is good news for the EducationUSA Canada Advising Center, which serves a country of 34.6 million people over 3.5 million square miles!

Since 2011, EducationUSA Canada has worked hard to reach educators and students across Canada with accurate information about study opportunities at U.S. college and universities. From November 2012 to 2013 alone, EducationUSA hosted or attended 34 separate education events, including presentations to Canadian students, higher education fairs and visits to local high schools. Through these public events, EducationUSA has  reached over 1700 Canadian students, parents, and educators.

Online engagement has put even more Canadian students and educators in touch with EducationUSA services. The EducationUSA Canada website attracts some 400 visitors each month, while our blog receives 580 visits each month. EducationUSA Canada's YouTube Channel, featuring interviews with Canadian alumni of U.S. institutions, has been viewed over 1800 times since 2012. Daily updates to our Facebook and Twitter accounts disseminate information about financial aid, EducationUSA events, and recruitment visits.

With the number of Canadians in the United States up, EducationUSA Canada Advising Center has reason to celebrate as 2013 draws to a close. We look forward to connecting with new regions and populations across Canada in 2014!
