Follow our blog series to hear firsthand from currents students and alumni of U.S. universities. We continue our series with Yuan, a Canadian graduate of Texas Wesleyan University, a liberal arts institution in Fort Worth, Texas.

Applying for college can be a stressful ordeal. Applying for college as an international student is a whole other story. I recall feeling nervous, anxious, and stressed as I worked through countless applications in search of the best school for me. Factors such as tuition, cost of living, and student life played a big part in my decision making process.

I was drawn to Texas Wesleyan University because of the small community and environment that the school provided. At this school I wasn't known by the seven numbers that made up my student ID, but instead by professors who knew me by my first name. The small size of the school meant that working with the International Programs office was very easy. The international advisors were very knowledgeable and helped me work through any complications that came about. They made being an international student much less stressful.

During my four years at Texas Wesleyan University, I had the opportunity to be President of the National Biological Honors society on campus, work one-on-one with an advisor on a research project, and present my research at conferences in Oklahoma and Puerto Rico.
Overall, my time as an international student at Texas Wesleyan University was great! Studying in the United States opens up many opportunities and I highly recommend the experience!
