Money tips for college students

In this article, I will be covering various money tips for college students that you can use to find extra money to pay for college, and cut back on your spending. Once a student has all of their financial aid bases covered, they can go further and use these money tips to adjust their financial habits and save more money for college. Without further ado, let’s begin.

One important money tip for college students would be to watch spending on food. This kind of spending can rack up very quickly, and if a student learns to save their money here, they can save a LOT of money for college by spending less on food. Think about it. Say a student spends an average of $2 a day on snacks, and perhaps $15 per week on going out to eat, instead of just using their housing meal plan to eat in the dining hall. Over the course of one year of college, even this small of an amount of spending on food would amount to about $1,000. Four years and a student will have spend $4,000 on food, and even more if your food spending amounts to a greater amount than the figures above. Students should use their housing meal plan to eat AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, and limit their spending on other food to no more than $10 per week. By doing this, college students can save as much money as $1,000 or more per year.

Another tip for college students to save money would be to NOT bring a car to college! There is a ton of activities available on or near campus, and if there is something a student wants to do further away from campus, there are other modes of transportation available such as the bus, or carpooling with another student. Car expenses are high, and by not bringing a car to college, a college student can save a ton of money to help pay for college tuition. Car insurance alone will cost $1,000 to $2,000 per year, and with gas and maintenance costs, a student can expect to pay several more hundred dollars per year on their car. By not taking a car to college, a student can save a lot of extra money to help pay tuition.

By following these money tips, college students can save up to $3,000 per year by not taking a car to college and watching their spending on food! While this money won’t cover a student’s entire college tuition, it will certainly help students to pay for college.
