Joanne Yi stopped by the EducationUSA Canada table at the Queen's University international education fair last fall. Joanne, who is interested in studying veterinary science at a U.S. graduate school, spoke to EducationUSA representatives at the fair and filled out a short survey about her attitudes toward studying in the United States. By filing out the survey, she was entered into a drawing for the Kindle E-Reader prize.
A few months later, we contacted Joanne and told her that she was the Kingston, Ontario winner of the prospective survey raffle. As a prize, she would receive not only the Kindle, but a visit from the U.S. Embassy, Ottawa. Joanne was thrilled and offered to set up a presentation for EducationUSA to speak with the Queen's University Pre-Veterinary Society.
On March 5, EducationUSA and staff from the U.S. Embassy travelled to Kingston. At Queen's University, we met with Joanne's Pre-Veterinary Society and described options for graduate study in the United States. Students in her society are exploring their options south of the border for study, not surprising since there are over two dozen veterinary medical schools in the United States accredited by the Association of American Veterinary Medicine Colleges, compared to just four in Canada.
Joanne's top choice? It's still a secret, but when she officially enrolls next year at a top U.S. institution, we know it will the right fit for her. Congratulations, Joanne.
