Step 5. How to find scholarships

To get scholarships, knowing where to find the best one’s is extremely important for students looking to find money for college. While finding and getting scholarships might sound simple at first, it can quickly become difficult. Many scholarships out there are not well-advertised (and the ones that are tend to be extremely competitive to win), so students should research beforehand which scholarships they should apply for and what are the easiest scholarships to get.

If you can get scholarships for college, you will probably be able to graduate without having much student debt. You first step to get scholarships for college is to see what your company offers if you are employed; many companies offer financial aid for college students, and it can often be easier to get if you work for them. If you are in high school, some of the easiest scholarships to get can be through “high school level” companies, such as fast food restaurants and clothing stores. For example, if you work/worked for McDonalds or Burger King, you can get easy scholarships through either of them.

Another type of scholarship available to college students that is less competitive is the ROTC scholarship. If you get this scholarship, you will have a small military commitment after college, but these scholarships can be extremely valuable in that they sometimes cover up to the entire cost of attending college.

After this, your next step to get scholarships will be to research the scholarships offered in your local community. There are several community and non-profit organizations that offer scholarships to college students, and they are often less competitive and easier to win. However, these are often the hardest scholarships to find, so you will need to do a bit of research first.
Students can also often get scholarships that are offered specifically for their major in college.

In finding scholarships, there are several resources that high school and college students can utilize. Some useful sources of information include the Internet, the library, and other organizations/government agencies.

Just remember that the key to finding ideal scholarships for college is to be specific in the type of scholarships that you are looking for.
